Palm reading guide

The head line

The head line runs across the middle of the palm, below the heart line. In palmistry it's read for the way you think: how you take in information, how you focus, and how you come to a decision.

Where to find it

The head line usually starts at the edge of the palm between the thumb and index finger, often touching the start of the life line, and runs across toward the other side of the hand. It may run straight or slope gently down toward the wrist. If it's hard to spot, curl your fingers slightly: it's the crease that deepens across the middle of the palm.

What readers look at

A straight head line is traditionally read as a practical, logical thinker who likes facts and clear plans. A line that slopes downward is read as a more imaginative mind, drawn to ideas, stories and creative work.

Length is often read as how wide your interests run: a long line suggests someone who considers many angles, a shorter one someone who gets to the point quickly. A deep line is read as strong focus; a fainter one as a mind that moves easily between topics.

Where the head line meets the life line at its start, readers often see a careful, considered approach to big decisions. A visible gap between the two is read as independence, someone who's happy to make up their own mind early.

Forks and both hands

A head line that splits into two at the end, sometimes called a writer's fork, is traditionally read as a mind that sees more than one side of things and enjoys putting ideas into words.

Comparing both hands can be interesting here as well. A straighter line on one hand and a sloping one on the other is often read as a practical thinker with a creative streak, or the other way round.

Reading it for yourself

Think about how you made your last big choice. Did you list pros and cons, follow a gut feeling, or talk it through with someone? The head line is a prompt to notice your own thinking style, and to appreciate the styles of the people around you.

In Polarfate, the head line is paired with Mercury and the Decision card.
